Synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide

A stable peptide derived from a protective protein found in human gastric juice. In preclinical research it is studied for tissue repair and angiogenesis, acting through pathways including VEGFR2 activation and nitric-oxide-system modulation, with documented interest in tendon, ligament, muscle and gastrointestinal healing models.

Regulatory & legal statusNot FDA-approved. Placed on the FDA Category 2 bulk drug substances list (2023). Banned by WADA (S0, since 2022).

Thymosin Beta-4 fragment
Synthetic actin-binding peptide

Represents the active region (LKKTETQ motif) of Thymosin Beta-4, a naturally occurring protein involved in cell migration and angiogenesis. Researched for wound-healing and tissue-repair models via actin sequestration. Note that Thymosin Beta-4 is upregulated in some metastatic cancers, a theoretical concern flagged in the literature.

Synthetic GHRH analog

A growth-hormone-releasing-hormone analog studied for its effect on pituitary GH and IGF-1 levels. Exists in a short-acting form (no DAC) and a long-acting Drug Affinity Complex (DAC) form with very different half-lives; the two are pharmacologically distinct.

Ipamorelin

Selective growth-hormone secretagogue (pentapeptide)

A ghrelin-mimetic that binds the GHS-R1a receptor and is studied for selective GH release without the cortisol or prolactin elevation seen with older secretagogues. Frequently discussed alongside CJC-1295 in the research literature.

PT-141

Bremelanotide (Vyleesi)
Melanocortin (MC3R/MC4R) agonist

A cyclic peptide derived from Melanotan II that acts centrally on melanocortin receptors. Unusually for compounds in this space, it received FDA approval in 2019 under the brand name Vyleesi for hypoactive sexual desire disorder — meaning the approved product is a prescription medication.

Regulatory & legal statusFDA-approved (Vyleesi, 2019) as a PRESCRIPTION drug. Contraindicated with PDE5 inhibitors; caution in uncontrolled hypertension.

A naturally occurring tripeptide (L-cysteine, L-glutamic acid, glycine) central to cellular antioxidant defense and Phase II liver detoxification. Studied for oxidative-stress and skin-related endpoints.

Regulatory & legal statusHolds GRAS (food) status. Injectable glutathione is not FDA-approved for any therapeutic indication; the FDA has warned about compounding it from dietary-grade powder.

Coenzyme

A coenzyme essential to cellular energy production and a cofactor for sirtuins, PARP enzymes and CD38. Endogenous levels decline with age. Studied for metabolic, mitochondrial and neuroprotective endpoints, largely via oral precursor (NMN/NR) research.

Regulatory & legal statusNot FDA-approved as an injectable therapeutic. Most clinical evidence comes from oral precursor studies rather than injection.

Regulatory & legal statusUsed topically in cosmetic products. Injectable GHK-Cu is not FDA-approved. Contraindicated in Wilson's disease and copper-metabolism disorders.

Thymosin Alpha-1

Thymic immune peptide (28-aa)

A thymic peptide studied for decades in immune-modulation contexts, including hepatitis, immunosenescence and vaccine-response research. The synthetic analog thymalfasin is marketed in a number of countries.

Regulatory & legal statusApproved and marketed in several countries as Zadaxin; NOT FDA-approved in the U.S. Contraindicated in deliberately immunosuppressed individuals (e.g. transplant recipients).

Melanotan II

MT-II
Cyclic melanocortin (α-MSH) analog

A synthetic melanocortin-receptor agonist studied for pigmentation and libido endpoints. Its safety profile is a notable concern: the published literature documents systemic toxicity, including a case of rhabdomyolysis.

Regulatory & legal statusNot FDA-approved. Documented reports of serious adverse effects including rhabdomyolysis; sold illegally in many jurisdictions.

Reading the regulatory status

Approved, investigational, or research-only?

The single most useful thing to know about any compound here is its legal footing, because it varies enormously. A few — tirzepatide, PT-141, and elamipretide — are FDA-approved prescription medicines, meaning the legitimate product comes from a pharmacy with a prescriber, not a research vial. Retatrutide is investigational and isn't legally sold at all. Most of the rest are unapproved research compounds, and several (BPC-157, TB-500, the growth-hormone secretagogues) are banned in sport by WADA.

None of this is advice about whether or how to use anything — it's context so you understand what you're actually looking at. If you're researching a compound and considering anything beyond reading, that's a conversation for a licensed healthcare professional.
